Lexington police investigate shooting at gas station

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Police were called to the Marathon station at Winchester Road and Industry Road shortly after 12:30 when a man came in to rob the store, but they say he didn't simply demand money.
"It was a pretty aggressive assault," said Lt. Mark Brand.
They say the man attacked the store owner. They say the two struggled briefly before the shop owner got his hands on a gun and shot the would-be robber. Police said the man was still inside the store when they got here. They didn't say whether or not the man was armed or whose gun the store owner used. Police will review the evidence to find out what happened here, but they say it appears the owner had reason to fire the gun.
"He was attacked in his store, the store owner defender himself," Brand said.
Police haven't identified the man who was shot or given information on his condition.
